As lifelong athletes, martial artists, outdoor enthusiasts, and parents of athletic kids, Tim and Nina Sloan have had many a concerned conversation in recent years about a trending disconnect in our culture's approach to achievement in athleticism.

They were noticing current pressures to succeed were usurping the necessary, foundational pillars that support physical and mental wellness… creating pivotal, longer term consequences.

In early 2022, they read an article about why the Norwegians' radically different approach to sport actually creates better athletes, hitting all the points on things they valued while still promoting the athlete in everyone. It spoke straight to their heart, and inevitably put Rocky Mountain Sports Club on the map, opening their first location in Broomfield, CO on August 24th, 2022.

Tim Sloan grew up in Appalachia along the Ohio River in the small town of Pomeroy. He is a a true Ohio native, as his family settled before the United States sought its own independence. He has a BBA from Ohio University and an MBA from George Washington University and is a combat veteran, serving many years and tours for the United States Army. Tim has been a martial art practitioner for almost a decade, achieving the rank of 1st Degree in Tang Soo Do, and 1st and 2nd Degree in Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan. He is an medalist in forms and power breaking at the US Open International Taekwondo Hanmadang. He currently teaches as a globally certified Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan instructor at Rocky Mountain Martial Arts - Front Range. His training philosophy is inspired by his many years of military service (and the injuries that resulted), articulated best in the book, “The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma” by Bessel van der Kolk, M.D.. Tim trains for healing, continued athleticism, and longevity. Tim received his YT-200 yoga instructor certification in 2024, is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, and a Certified Warriors at Ease instructor.

Born in Virginia, and moving soon after, Nina Sloan grew up in the Mountains of Colorado just outside Conifer. She holds a BA in English from Westmont College and has a passion for solid communication strategies. She has an even greater passion for programs that promote health and wellness in kids, and has spent much of her life volunteering in that capacity. She achieved the rank of 1st Degree in Tang Soo Do, and 1st and 2nd Degree in Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan. She is also a medalist in forms and power breaking at the US Open International Taekwondo Hanmadang. Nina is a globally certified Moo Duk Kwan Instructor with Rocky Mountain Martial Arts - Front Range and received her YT-200 yoga certification in 2023. Her training philosophy is inspired by connectedness, energy, balance, recovery and being grounded. She appreciates the athlete in everyone.

The Sloans have been collaborating alongside an amazing Board of Directors, operating Rocky Mountain Martial Arts - Front Range, a non-profit martial arts organization in Broomfield, for the past 5 years as a way to give back to the community.
